Backyard saunas

Every sauna in our database is built for exactly this: a permanent spot behind a house. What separates a backyard purchase from a catalogue browse is the siting homework, so this page carries the full table alongside the questions your yard will ask before checkout. Each spec below is the maker or stocking retailer statement, read from the linked page on the date shown, and the dash means the seller stays silent.

A dash means the seller does not publish that figure. Prices are the linked seller page price on the date each record shows, before freight.

Listed prices on this page run from $4.0k to $14.1k, dated per record and before freight. The spread is not noise: it tracks wood species, wall thickness and what ships in the base crate, which is why the table shows those columns beside the number.

The four questions your yard asks first

Where it sits decides more than which model you pick. The pad needs to be level, load-bearing and draining, with walking room and door swing outside the stated footprint. The power run matters early because a 240 volt circuit is priced by the distance from your panel, and a far corner of the garden can cost more to reach than the heater itself costs to buy. Wood-fired models trade that run for a flue and whatever your locality says about solid fuel. And winter access is the question everyone skips in July: the path you will walk in a towel in February is part of the purchase.

Privacy and neighbours are the quieter fourth question. A sauna hums when its heater cycles, glows in the evening, and in cold weather it steams. None of that is a problem beside a hedge and all of it can be one under a bedroom window on the lot line. The fit finder below checks your pad dimensions against every footprint we track, which settles the physical half of the siting question in about a minute.

How well documented this category is

Documentation is the quiet spec. Across the 15 models on this page, 15 of 15 publish a compatible heater range, while only 0 of 15 publish an assembly estimate. A seller who states a figure is inviting comparison, and one who does not is asking you to order first and measure later. Each row above links to the page every number was read from, and a dash marks the questions worth putting to the seller in writing before freight is on the truck.

Questions buyers ask at this point

How much space does a backyard sauna need?

The footprint column below is the building alone. Add the door swing, a walkway on at least one side, and the stove-wall clearance from the model’s manual. Our fit finder checks your actual pad dimensions against every model we track.

Do I need a permit for a backyard sauna?

Outbuilding, setback and solid-fuel rules vary too much by locality for any site to answer honestly. Your local building office is a short call, and asking before the crate ships costs nothing. Electrical work is a licensed-electrician matter everywhere we track.

How close to the house can a sauna be?

The governing distances are your local code and the model’s own clearance requirements, especially for wood-fired flues. Practically, closer to the house means a cheaper circuit run and a shorter February walk, which is why the power question and the siting question are the same question.
