Wood burning sauna heaters

Wood firing frees a sauna from the electrical panel and ties it to a chimney instead. The stoves below carry their publishers’ stated room ranges and stone capacities, dated and linked. One thing this page will not do is tell you what your municipality allows: rules on wood stoves, chimney clearances and outbuildings vary by locality, and checking yours before buying is part of the purchase, not paperwork after it.

A dash means the publisher does not state that figure. Rated room is the publisher's own volume range. "Up to" ranges have no stated minimum and the calculator does not evaluate them.

What wood firing changes, practically

A wood stove swaps infrastructure. Instead of a 240 volt circuit you owe the room a flue: chimney sections matched to the stove, flashing where it exits, clearances the manual specifies, and a woodpile that stays dry. The stove sticker is the smallest of those numbers. What you get back is independence from the panel, a heat that owners describe as softer for reasons that have as much to do with tending a fire as physics, and a sauna that works when the power does not.

Stone mass matters more on this page than anywhere else on the site. Wood stoves carry big stone loads, and the stones are the flywheel: they take the fire’s peaks and give back steady heat between loads. A stove listing that states its stone capacity is telling you how the room will actually behave an hour in. The records below carry each publisher’s stated mass, and a dash where the seller leaves you to find out.

Questions buyers ask at this point

Do wood-fired heaters need a permit?

Rules vary too much by locality for any site to answer this honestly. Solid fuel stoves and chimneys are regulated in many places and unregulated in others. Your local building office is a short call and the only source that counts.

How do wood stove room ratings work?

The same way electric ones do: the maker states a volume range for each stove, and your room’s effective volume should land inside it. The ratings on this page are the publishers’ own, with sources dated.

What about the chimney?

Every wood stove we track requires a proper flue, and makers sell chimney kits matched to their stoves. The stove record links the seller page where those components are documented.
