The claim behind the word cedar

Cedar is the most invoked word in sauna marketing and the least examined. On this page it is a filter with teeth: a model appears here only when its seller names a cedar species on the product page, red or white, and a listing that says premium wood or shows cedar-coloured photographs does not qualify. That standard removes more models than you would expect, which is itself a finding about how this category sells.

What you are paying the cedar premium for is behaviour over years: natural decay resistance without treatment, dimensional stability through wet-dry cycles, and the way the wood weathers rather than degrades. What you are not paying for is heat performance, which belongs to the heater and the insulation.
