What an outdoor sauna actually costs

The sticker, by size

Read the table sideways and one thing stands out: the spread inside a size band is wider than the step between bands. Going from two seats to six moves the floor a couple of thousand dollars. Moving from spruce to premium wood, or from a bare shell to a fully equipped crate, can move the number further inside a single size. Size is the smallest lever on this sticker.

The heater line, and whether you already paid it

Of the saunas we track, 8 include a heater in the base price and 7 sell it as a separate choice, per their own pages. That single field explains a lot of apparent bargains. A room-only sticker can trail a fully equipped competitor by the entire cost of a stove and still be the more expensive purchase. Each record states which kind of price you are looking at, and the heater database carries the stove prices their sellers publish.

The lines that are never on the sticker

• Freight. Crated pallet shipping, quoted against your address and unload situation at checkout. It is the reason every price on this site carries a date and the words before freight.
• The pad. A level, load-bearing base per the maker's install guide. Gravel, pavers or concrete, each at its own cost. The foundation guide covers what makers actually require.
• The circuit. For electric heat, a dedicated 240 volt run installed by an electrician, priced by your panel and the distance to the sauna. The electrical guide preps that conversation.
• The flue, if wood-fired. Chimney sections, flashing and clearances, plus whatever your locality requires for solid-fuel stoves. Your local building office answers that one, not a website.
• Assembly help. Kits that state a crew size say two people. If the second person is hired rather than family, that is a line too.

How to budget honestly

Take the listed price of the model you want, note whether the heater is inside it, and then hold a margin for freight, base and electrical rather than pretending those are zero. The sellers cannot quote them for you and neither can we, but a buyer who knows the lines exist negotiates the whole project instead of discovering it in instalments.
